Synthetic Pot’s Dangerous Impact on Brain Health

Synthetic Pot’s Dangerous Impact on Brain Health

From January 2009 to January 2017, America was plunged deeper into the quagmire of liberalism, hedonism, perversion and self-gratification. During that time, we saw the LGBT movement rise to prominence and given preferential treatment with the legalization of same-sex marriage, teaching of LGBT lifestyles in public schools to kids as young as kindergarten and preferential treatment over Christian business owners and military chaplains. We also saw the decriminalization of many drug related crimes and the legalization of marijuana in many states.

In previous posts, I’ve written about the increased problems associated with legalized marijuana. Those problems include increased injuries and deaths in traffic accidents related to the use of marijuana and an increased number of emergency room visits for a condition linked to extensive marijuana use. There has also been a number of tragic deaths of people as result of first time marijuana use. One college student fell over a balcony and plunged to his death after ingesting marijuana for the first time and in another case, a husband went crazy and shot and killed his wife.

One city in Colorado went from being a beautiful and peaceful tourist attraction to a home for drug users and homeless people. Business owners often have to force vagrants to move from the doors to allow customers to enter. Used needles are common forms of litter on the streets and sidewalks. Some businesses have lost so much business that they’ve have to close their doors. The legalization of marijuana destroyed this town and other towns in the state are facing similar problems.

While more and more states are legalizing the medicinal and recreational use of marijuana, many employers are not and have strict drug testing policies in place. Any trace of marijuana or other cannabinoids or stronger drugs like heroin and opioids, and it’s grounds for termination. I’ve worked for places who had strong anti-drug policies, and they were all zero tolerance.

Strong zero tolerance drug testing policies have led to the development of a number of cannabinoids – products that have the effects of marijuana but are not detected by most urine or blood tests. These cannabinoids are synthetic compounds that often concentrate the ‘high’ effects of marijuana but also contain other ingredients that are presenting their own health-related issues.

“Research led by Olga Malyshevskaya and Yoshihiro Urade of International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (WPI-IIIS), University of Tsukuba, discovered that seizures, a life-threatening condition, can be induced by natural Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC, main constituent of marijuana) or the synthetic cannabinoid JWH-018 (main component of synthetic blend ‘Spice’) in mice. This was demonstrated by continuous recording of animals’ electric brain activity (electroencephalogram, EEG), video and movement activity tracking. Based on their data they propose potential treatment in case of cannabinoid overdose with the cannabinoid-1-receptor (CB1R) specific antagonist (AM-251), because in their study pretreatment prevented cannabinoid-induced seizures.”

“‘Our study is quite important because unaware of the particularly severe effect by those cannabinoids, people see marijuana as a soft drug, without dangerous health effects,’ Malyshevskaya says. Use of synthetic cannabinoids and the associated complications in humans are on the rise and spreading all-over the world. People are synthesizing different variants of cannabinoids to evade regulatory agents, producing structures with minimal information on their pharmacology and potential harm.”

Regular marijuana is proving to not be as safe as advocates claim and the synthetic cannabinoids, including a popular one sold under the brand name ‘Spice’, are proving to be even more detrimental, health-wise. Sadly, this won’t deter many and once the laws have been passed to legalize it, it will be extremely difficult to change or void those laws now and we will see more people suffer from this liberalism.
