NRA Report Shows that More Guns = Less Crime

Screen Shot 2015-09-03 at 10.50.28 AMA recent tweet by the National Rifle Association (NRA) has us celebrating an unintentional effect of Obama’s presidency: increased gun sales and decreased violence.

Check out what the NRA tweeted last week:
“Since ’91, Americans have acquired over 170 million new firearms and violent crimes have declined by 51%.”

This stat comes in part from data gathered by the Congressional Research Service (CRS). Americans purchased 118 million guns between the years 1994 and 2009. According to a study conducted by the CRS, the rate of “firearm-related murder and non-negligent homicide” fell from 6.6 (per 100,000) to 3.6 by the year 2000. By 2011 it had dropped to 3.2. That’s more than 50%!

Gun sales skyrocketed when Obama took office in 2009. To give you an idea: according to Breitbart News, over 21,000,000 background checks were performed in the year 2013 – all for buyers legally allowed to purchase multiple firearms.

Despite Obama’s continuing frustration with his inability to take our guns away, it seems he actually had a hand in decreasing violence by inspiring Americans to stockpile weapons.

Thanks Obama!
