North Korea Detains American Accused of Spying

On Monday, CNN reported that the country of North Korea has detained an American on suspicion of spying.

The Pyongyang government is reportedly holding a man named Kim Dong Chui who has now been accused of spying and stealing secrets from the North Korean country. Dong Chui was interviewed by CNN where he said he frequently traveled between China and North Korea, occasionally entering into South Korea also.

Back home, State Department officials have declined to comment on the authenticity of the story saying. One official speaking anonymously stated, “speaking publicly about specific purported cases of detained Americans can complicate our tireless efforts to secure their freedom.”

During its coverage of the story, CNN displayed the detained man’s passport claiming he has most recently lived in China, but previously called Fairfax, Virginia home.
