RIDGEFIELD—Emergency management officials are encouraging residents to update their emergency plans in preperation for what the National Hurricane Center said will be a busy storm season.

Dick Aarons, emergency manager for the town, said plans should at minimum include registration for CT ALERT notifications, stocking up on provisions to last five days without utilities and preparation of a customized go-kit for each family member and pets. Residents can sign up for the alert notifications by clicking the CT ALERT icon on the town website.

Other tips include keeping track of developing weather systems, topping off car fuel before an emergency, establishing a phone contact out of the area, using battery-operated lanterns instead of candles, creating a wellness-check plan with neighbors, securing loose outdoor furniture, maintain home generators and report outages or other emergencies to authorities.

A full list of emergency preparation and resource tips can be found on the town’s website.
