The Dish on Donald

The Dish on Donald

Donald TrumpFrom rumors of a future President/Vice President alliance with Ted Cruz to off-color comments that have us speechless, Donald Trump has certainly become the most talked about of the 17 Republican contenders for the 2016 election.

Will this 69-year-old brash billionaire become the first presidential candidate to personally fund his entire campaign? Trump is quoted as saying that he is worth over $10 billion, more than enough to fund his campaign. “I don’t need anybody’s money,” he said in June shortly after announcing his candidacy. “I’m using my own money. I’m not using the lobbyists. I’m not using donors. I don’t care. I’m really rich.”

Bloomberg estimates he isn’t worth half that much, but the real estate mogul doesn’t care. “They don’t know what I have,” he said on CNN. “I’m a private company. They have no idea.”

Fame and name recognition may have given Trump’s campaign a head start, but The Donald has climbed steadily in the polls since his candidacy announcement on June 16th.

According to last week’s polls, Trump is the clear leader in the GOP field with almost a quarter of the vote secured, even jumping to 35% in New Hampshire.

What you might not know about Donald Trump:

• Forced to attend military academy at age 13 after bad behavior
• Expected to run in nearly every presidential election since 1988
• Started his career by working for his dad
• Declared business bankruptcy in 1991
• Never smoked cigarettes or used an ATM

Trump has made headlines recently with his decision to appear as a featured guest at Ted Cruz’s anti-Iran deal rally on September 9th on the Capitol’s West Lawn. As it stands, the Republican majority is not enough to overturn a presidential veto. While Trump’s drawing power is sure to make the rally a success, will it be enough to convince more lawmakers to vote against the deal?

“Everything he seems to touch turns to gold,” Trump’s father once said about his son. Let’s hope his good luck continues if The Donald is elected President of the United States.
